UNISODIC Welcomes The Opening of the Somalia Assembly
The United Somali Diaspora Congress (UNISODIC) is welcoming the opening of the Somali assembly on Wednesday in the capital Mogadishu,.
About 825 member National Constituent Assembly (NCA), chosen by Somali traditional elders, have gathered in the meeting to start their constitutional debate that will last for nine days.
“This is a long time waited assembly, and we hope to bring the Somali people’s dream true” says a statement by UNISODIC.
UNISODIC also welcomes the role of of the women in the delegation of this assembly.
“We are very much pleased in the 30% membership for the women in this assembly, and we describe it as a step forward to insure the women’s rights” said UNISODIC in it’s statement.
This assembly underlines the first of it’s kind held in the country for more than 20 years of civil strife, and its aim is to ratify a first federal constitution for the country. If it is adopted, it would be meant a bridge to the next months election of a new government.
